Tolman Hall was vacated in 2018. Programs from the School of Education and Department of Psychology relocated to the newly constructed Berkeley Way West, located a few blocks to the west. The building was subsequently demolished due to its seismic performance rating and obsolete building systems which would make a renovation financially unfeasible. The site was graded with stormwater management features incorporated, and damaged sidewalks were repaired and replaced.
This site will become the Gateway, the new home of the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS), the first new college at UC Berkeley in 50 years.
