Stephens Hall opened in 1923 and was designed in Collegiate Gothic style by architect John Galen Howard. The building's exterior is a priority for repair to preserve the architectural heritage of the campus and avoid future costly repairs due to avoidable weather damage.

Refurbishments included removing layers of old paint, resealing, and then repainting the building exterior. This project will also repaired and replaced the building's windows. Crews installed scaffolding and wrapped the entire building while work took place. Stephens Hall remained open and occupied throughout the refurbishment. Furniture along perimeter walls was moved to create a 3-foot buffer in support of the project.

Construction began in January 2022 and was completed in April 2023.
