The Greek Theatre Upper Bowl Improvements created a more comfortable environment for patrons and ensures compliance with current codes and accessibility standards through refurbishments to the lawn seating, temporary support facilities, and emergency access lanes.
The existing lawn seating area was renovated to offer improved seating arrangements, including accessible seating options. Additionally, a portion of the original lawn temporarily used for other purposes associated with adjacent Foothill Residence Halls was restored. The project will also included the reconfiguration of the existing emergency access lane.
The project created a better audience experience, increased patron safety and circulation, and provided more flexible areas for concessions and restrooms. This involved regrading the lawn, installing concrete curb seating, and adding staircases for improved circulation within the seating areas. Additionally, temporary platform areas were introduced, and facility lighting was enhanced to improve safety.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, the project planted more than 30 new trees, exceeding campus requirements. The new trees include a mix of arbutus, deodar cedar, Brisbane box, and oak trees. All plantings adhere to campus design standards and policies, such as using drought-tolerant plantings.
The Greek Theatre Upper Bowl Improvements began construction in October 2023. The project was completed in April 2024.
